Boudica – Handmade Stained Glass Artwork
Boudica is an original stained glass artwork created and handmade by Christine Saunders of Amber Dragons. Inspired by the queen of the Iceni, this expressive piece brings together a commanding central figure, Celtic-inspired decoration and woodland imagery.
Celtic-Inspired Design
The arched composition surrounds Boudica with intricate interlaced patterns and natural details. Pale greens, warm golden tones and dark outlines create an atmospheric setting, while the braided hair and decorative border invite closer inspection.
This is an artistic interpretation of a historical subject, combining figurative stained glass with Celtic-inspired visual storytelling.
Boudica and the Hare
According to the story, Queen Boudica released a hare from the folds of her dress and watched which way it ran, interpreting its direction as an omen of the outcome of the battle with the Romans. This evocative connection between Boudica and the hare adds another layer of meaning to the artwork, linking courage, nature and ancient belief.
Handmade by Christine Saunders
Christine’s individual approach gives the artwork its distinctive character. The central portrait provides a striking focal point, complemented by the smaller details within the surrounding glass. Changing light reveals different colours and textures throughout the composition.
A Statement Piece for Art Lovers
Boudica offers a distinctive choice for collectors of handmade stained glass panels, admirers of Celtic design and anyone drawn to folklore and fantasy-inspired stained glass artwork. Its combination of portraiture, pattern and natural imagery makes it a compelling decorative piece.
